Basic Beauty Test: Anna Tries 3 Fan-Favorite Foundations

I have been on the hunt for the right foundation for some time now!

I'm looking for a formula that's not only perfect for everyday use, but also offers full coverage for formal outings and special occasions. For our latest Basic Beauty Test, I’m trying out three much-loved products: the Power Play Foundation by Cover FXCharlotte Tilbury's Magic Foundation, and the True Skin Serum Foundation by ILIA.

Today, I am trying all three foundations after applying moisturizer. Each image shows what the foundation looks like on my skin, without concealer or powder or anything additional. I ranked the performance of each foundation based on coverage, blending, and texture! Read on to find out if these beauty staples are really worth the hype.

Cover FX Power Play Foundation

Performance:

Coverage: 9/10

This product offered the most coverage out of the three foundations.

Blending: 5/10

The formula was really thick, so it wasn’t easy to blend at all.

Texture: 6/10

The texture felt a bit sticky. Usually, the stickier foundations give you the best coverage, so I was okay with it for this test!

Final Thoughts: I think the Cover FX Power Play Foundation is a solid choice for specific occasions rather than daily use. The full coverage is great for an event or a time when I’m taking a lot of pictures, but I would not wear this on an everyday basis. Also, this is kind of random, but it had a weird smell! Overall, the coverage was top-notch, but I’m not running back to use this foundation again.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation

Performance:

Coverage: 8/10

The magic foundation offers medium coverage, and it still felt lightweight! It actually felt like I wasn't wearing makeup at all.

Blending: 9/10

It blends super well!

Texture: 8/10

It’s not too thick and doesn’t feel cakey. The application was really smooth, too–overall, it was really easy to use.

Final Thoughts: I love all Charlotte Tilbury products (Charlotte never lets me down!) and this foundation is one of my favorites! This is a great foundation for both an everyday makeup look and special events. It blended super easily and helped me achieve a natural and even look. I would recommend this product–it lives up to its “magic” name!

ILIA True Skin Serum Foundation

Performance:

Coverage: 7.5/10

This product offers a more subtle and natural-looking coverage, which I LOVE, but it’s a lighter coverage compared to the other two foundations. This is perfect for everyday use–I would use this foundation for a “no makeup” makeup look.

Blending: 9/10

It blends super well! It feels like it melts into your skin.

Texture: 9/10

The texture is nice and silky smooth. It didn’t feel heavy on my skin, which is a major plus.

Final Thoughts: I love this ILIA foundation! I use it all the time and I never feel like I am wearing too much makeup. I highly recommend it to anyone searching for an easy-to-use, light coverage foundation for daily use. ILIA is also a clean beauty brand, so every product is formulated without harmful ingredients like parabens, phthalates, and petroleum. It's another reason to love and trust the products!

Overall, these three foundations are great for different occasions and various levels of coverage. My favorite is the ILIA True Skin Serum Foundation, followed by Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. If you’re looking for a product that offers major coverage (and that you won’t necessarily need to blend), the Cover FX Power Play Foundation is a good choice.
