At Home With Team SN: Inside Jamie's Travel-Inspired Apartment

There's a lot of designing, planning, and TLC that goes into making a new space feel like home.

We asked Team SN to share design ideas, home inspiration, and essential buys based on their own carefully curated interiors. Today, we're at home with Jamie, SN's Senior Art Director, as she gives us an inside look at the New York apartment she shares with her boyfriend.

"Designing a space that worked for me and my boyfriend was a challenge," Jamie said. "I found it was easiest to start fresh together and be inspired by the places we had traveled to."

Take a look inside her travel-inspired space and shop her must-have home decor picks to elevate your interiors.

"The Surfrider Hotel in Malibu is very US, so we picked that and ran with it," Jamie said of her initial decor inspiration. To round out the space, Jamie turned to two other locales for ideas as well. "We sprinkled in some Tulum vibes and vibrant Italian charm."

Jamie relied on a neutral color palette of white, black, brown, and beige to incorporate these notes into her space. "Using bright neutrals for our larger furniture pieces created a blank canvas for the fun details to stand out."

Those major neutral components include a white couch from CB2 and patterned pillows Jamie found on Etsy. For the coffee table, Jamie opted for an acrylic design from CB2, which lets the white on white palette pop. She completed her living room with a gallery wall, filled with a mix of art, prints, and photographs all in black or gold frames.

Jamie's living space has a holy grail feature rarely found in New York apartments: a fireplace! A detail this special deserves its own seating arrangement. In this section, Jamie added custom Brno chairs with brown leather seats for a pop of color.

A statement chandelier is a great way to enhance a space dominated by neutral shades. This quirky, floral-inspired chandelier from West Elm is situated in the center of the living room, adding an eye-catching accent to the white and cream hues.

Jamie also created a floating shelf wall in her living space, filled with photographs, books, and other keepsakes. "The floating shelf wall was quite the project," Jamie said. "And I'm still constantly switching things out to find the balance."

This modern, airy version of a bookcase serves double duty. Not only is it a great way to add personality and fun to your space, but it also serves as a place for storage. With a well-appointed wall of floating shelves, you can save that coveted closet space for other items.

To create a similar display in your home, start with simple floating shelves–we love this glossy white version from CB2. Then, place a mix of framed photos, books, candles, plants, and special small items across the shelves. Try organizing your picks by color to add visual intrigue, and don't forget to change it up from time to time!
